Service Opportunities within the Dallas Metroplex
DMI Position Descriptions
- Chair
- At intergroup meetings, in the event of a tie vote of the Intergroup Representatives (IR) and directors, the Chair shall cast a vote.
- Prepare the agenda for intergroup meetings and Board of Directors meetings.
- Call special meetings of the Board of Directors.
- Oversee preparation and presentation of an annual report of the intergroup meeting in June of each year and submit a copy to the newsletter.
- Vice-Chair
- Fulfill the duties of the Chair in the Chair's brief absence or incapacitation.
- Assist the Chair in the performance of the Chair's duties when requested to do so by the Chair.
- Take a roll call of the Board Members, Committee Directors, and Delegate/Alternate Delegates.
- Maintain a current list of groups that are registered with WSO in our intergroup.
- Newsletter Director
- Prepare the layout for printing.
- Deliver the newsletter to the Office for printing by the Wednesday prior to the Intergroup meeting.
- Have printed and ready for distribution at the monthly DMI meeting.
- Follow the guidelines from WSO concerning newsletters.
- Use the remaining space for items submitted by local contributors, Lifeline, Grapevine, other newsletters, etc. List credit on any materials from Overeaters Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous and others if known. DO NOT use copyrighted materials without acknowledgment.
- Try to carry the message of OA to the compulsive overeater who still suffers.
- Workshop Director
- Plan six (6) DMI workshops or seek individual groups to host workshops.
- Maintain a calendar of events to assist groups in the selection of workshop dates to prevent scheduling conflicts.
- Update the DMI guidelines for workshops when necessary and give to the Board Advisor.
- Keep DMI informed of upcoming workshops.
- Work with groups requesting help with planning workshops.
- Read the guidelines from WSO concerning special events.
- Try to carry the message of OA to the compulsive overeater who still suffers.
- Institutions Director
- Introduce OA to institutions such as: eating disorder units, clinics, schools, hospitals, prisons, and military installations.
- Provide OA literature to institutions, staff, and people in institutions.
- Arrange for speakers and leaders for OA meetings in institutions.
- Attend meetings in institutions.
- Arrange for OA visitors to call on shut-in compulsive overeaters.
- Serve as contact for groups interested in working in this area.
- To obtain and familiarize self with the HIP/military manual.
- Try to carry the message of OA to the compulsive overeater who still suffers .
- Speakers Bureau Director
- Help new and/or struggling groups.
- Suggest new ideas for meeting topics or programs.
- Keep a current list of speakers and help groups find speakers when requested.
- Enlist individuals or groups with strength, hope and experience to help new and/or struggling groups.
- Encourage people to share with other groups.
- Try to carry the message of OA to the compulsive overeater who still suffers.
- Public Information Director
- Read and be familiar with the Public Information Kit from WSO, all OA literature and material, Alcoholics Anonymous, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, The OA Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions and the Twelve Concepts of Service.
- Read WSO "Notebook" to keep informed of new OA guidelines and statements.
- Always strive to preserve Tradition Eleven by protecting anonymity at the public level.
- Work with newspapers, radio and television to carry the message of OA to the compulsive overeater who still suffers.
- Keep a list of newspapers, radio and television stations, telephone numbers, addresses, and contact persons.
- Work with individual groups interested in local newspaper articles.
- Provide sample news releases for new groups starting.
- Keep record and copies of published articles.
- Send literature to persons requesting information about OA.
- Help coordinate OA activities with health fairs, community affairs, service directories, the Chamber of Commerce, etc.
- Help with publicity for special events such as workshops and retreats.
- Retreat Director
- Plan and hold one retreat per year.
- Coordinate, supervise, and assist a committee working on the retreat.
- Update the DMI guidelines for retreats when necessary and give to the Board Advisor.
- Keep DMI informed of the proceedings of the committee.
- Maintain a retreat file and keep copies of materials to be given to the following director.

- Tri-County Liaison
- Exchange intergroup minutes with Tri-County.
- Exchange newsletters with Tri-County.
- Report to DMI news concerning Tri-County.
- Attend Tri-County intergroup meetings.
- Keep communications flowing between both intergroups.
- Notify Tri-County of DMI upcoming special events.
- Try to carry the message of OA to the compulsive overeater who still suffers.
- Delegates
- Attend the monthly DMI meeting.
- Attend the monthly Delegate's meeting immediately preceding DMI.
- Attend the Region 3 assemblies/WSO conferences as requested by DMI.
- Write a joint report of assemblies/WSO conferences to be published in the newsletter.
- Give a written expense report with unused expense money to the DMI treasure by the first DMI meeting following the Regions 3 assembly/WSO conference.
- Delegate shall notify the Chairman of the delegates immediately if unable to attend an assembly/conference.
- Attend DMI functions whenever possible.
- Keep groups informed of Region/WSO news.
- Retain WSO delegate status if elected to regional steering committee other than Regional Chairperson.

- Alternate Delegates
- Attend the monthly DMI meetings.
- Attend the monthly delegate's meeting preceding the DMI meeting.
- Perform all the applicable duties of the delegates.
- Try to carry the message of OA to the compulsive overeater who still suffers.
Region III Assembly and OA Convention Positions
- Co-Chair of the convention committee shall assist the Chair. Serve as acting chair if the Chair is unable to preside over a committee meeting.
- Treasurer of the convention committee shall set up a separate account for all convention money. This account shall require two signatures on all checks issued. It is the treasurer's responsibility to deposit all incoming monies and pay all bills that have a valid receipt. The treasurer shall strive to have a complete financial report at the earliest possible DMI meeting. A written record of all income and expenses should be kept. The proceeds of the convention shall be given the DMI treasurer to be deposited in the WSO delegate fund.
- Registrar shall provide a mailing address for the registration forms. Keep accurate records of the names and addresses of those registered. Send a copy of the registration forms to the program chairman, send registration fees to the treasurer. Form a committee to handle the registration at the hotel, provide nametags, registration packets, etc.
- Literature person shall arrange for a supply of literature to be available for purchase. For a committee to man the literature table during the convention. Keep accurate records of amounts of literature bought and sold.
- Program person shall work with the committee to determine speakers, topics, time, banquets speaker, procedure for obtaining speakers, etc. Oversee smooth flow of the convention and check to see if each room has speakers.
- Public Information person shall be responsible for sending notices to Horizon, WSO Lifeline, WSO "Notebook", and other newsletters. A committee shall work on setting up radio and television interviews. Local newspapers shall be notified of the upcoming convention.
- Transportation person shall help coordinate rides from the airports to the convention site.
- Raffle and Door Prize person shall form a committee to sell raffle tickets at the convention. He/She shall collect prizes to be given away and be in charge of the give-aways at the convention.
- Decorations person shall be responsible for providing signs of the topics and times at the convention. Banquet centerpieces shall also be made and any other decorations.
- Taping person shall make arrangements to have a taping company present to record the programs.
